Martindale Catholic School is a private Catholic school run by nuns/sisters of LCBL (Little Children of the Blessed Lady). It is located in the town of Selous approximately 80 km south of Harare in Zimbabwe. The school was founded in 1945 . The school was formerly run by Sisters of the Dominican order until sometime in the mid-80s when the LCBL sisters took over. the school was formerly for coloured students run by the Dominican Sisters, later the school was handed over to the LCBL.The school had the best discipline in the 1980s to the 1990s.The school had the best students boys going to St Ignatuis for form one and the school produced some of the best students in the country thanks to the good discipline under the LCBL sisters Former Heads of school included, Sister Pauline, Sister Jane, Mr Muchenje. Main language was English which had to be spoken at all times except during Shona lessons and Shona mass. Martindale was a boarding school with one class for each grade. Day scholars were allowed for the few workers who worked at the school. In 1985 Martindale Primary School had classes from grade 3 to grade seven. In 1986 they started introducing grade 1 again and by 1987 they had all the classes from grade 1 to grade seven. Former school headboy was Kelvin Munashe Mamvura, Headgirl was Mildreth Jean As a catholic school pupils were not allowed to eat meat on Fridays. Pupils attended mass service on Sundays, Tuesdays(morning mass), Wednesdays(hymn singing and evening mass), Fridays (Morning mass). Saturdays pupils did the afternoon rosary and then had their tuck which was the favourite time of the pupils. All week pupils counted the days and time until Tuck time on Saturdays. Casual clothes were allowed after school lessons which ended at 1pm. Study period was from 2pm to 3pm Monday to Friday. During the 1970s and 80s, the school was home to many students who were from parents of a political ground many of whom later became some of independent Zimbabwe's first black MPs namely; Mazorodze, kadungure, Pswarayi, etc. The former PM of Zimbabwe-Rhodesia, Mr Muzorewa also had children who were educated at Martindale. Josiah Tongogara also had 2 children who were educated at Martindale in the late 70s and early 80s. The school was well known for its excellent education standards being the reason it churned out some of the countries elite who later became either top business men like Nigel Chanakira (owner of Kingdom Bank Zimbabwe) and many who became leaders of industry and excelled elsewhere.
